February 2016

Sharon Abrams

It's hard to believe we are nearing March. Spring is on its way and I couldn't be more excited about what's been taking place here at The Maine Children's Home and what's in store for us in the coming months.

I am most eager to share that after a three-year process, The Children's Place Early Care & Education Center is now nationally accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) — a designation that includes only eight percent of preschools and other early childhood programs!

Congratulations to The Children's Place team for their incredibly hard work. We're so proud of this recognition and to have received the gold standard in quality early care and education.

Continue reading for more information on the NAEYC Accreditation and fun upcoming events, like our annual Easter egg hunt and wine tasting!

Looking forward to seeing you again next month,

Richard Dorian, Executive Director

The Children's Place Early Care & Education Center Receives National Accreditation

The Children's Place Early Care & Education Center, part of The Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers, has earned accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) — the nation's leading organization of early childhood professionals.

The Children's Place provides comprehensive early care and education services for children from infancy through age five. The fully licensed facility accommodates 52 children in one of five developmentally appropriate, learning-focused classrooms.

To earn the elite NAEYC Accreditation, The Children's Place went through an extensive three-year process, measuring the program's services against the ten NAEYC Early Childhood Program Standards and more than 400 related Accreditation criteria. The standards reflect the latest research and best practices in early childhood education and development.

The NAEYC Accreditation doubles the early care tax credit due to the recognition of quality, benefiting families in the central Maine community using The Children's Place. The early care and education organization is developing plans to increase openings for children in the near future.
